Where to find fish dinners on Fridays in Baton Rouge and Gonzales

When Lent rolls around in South Louisiana, you can count on two things: Fridays without meat and the smell of fried fish in the air. Lent begins Feb. 18 and lasts until April 2. On Fridays, churches across Baton Rouge open their doors and serve up fish plates.

St. Aloysius Catholic Church
2025 Stuart Ave., Baton Rouge

St. Aloysius is hosting its annual fish fry March 6. Plates cost $12 in advance or $14 at the door. Dine in that evening or use the drive thru.

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church
1150 S. 12th St., Baton Rouge

At St. Francis Xavier, catfish dinners are available every Friday through April 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plates are $15 and come with plenty on the side. Delivery is offered for large orders.

St. George Catholic Church
7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge

The men at St. George are cooking each Friday from Feb. 27 to March 27. For $12, you can get catfish, shrimp, or both, plus sides and a roll.

St. Isidore Catholic Church
5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge

St. Isidore’s Knights of Columbus are serving fish plates from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Friday during Lent for $12.

St. John the Baptist Church
4826 Main St., Zachary

In Zachary, St. John the Baptist will sell catfish plates Feb. 20 at City Hall. Proceeds go back into the community.

St. Joseph Cathedral
401 Main St., Baton Rouge

St. Joseph Cathedral will have fish dinners on three Fridays starting at 11 a.m.

St. Jude the Apostle
9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge

The men’s club at St. Jude is hosting fish fry Fridays each week during Lent starting at 5 p.m. Plates are served until they sell out. You can eat in the parish hall or take your plate home.

St. Mark Catholic Church
42021 La. 621, Gonzales

St. Mark is serving Lenten meals every Friday until March 27. Plates are ready at 4 p.m. and will be sold until they run out.

St. Patrick Catholic Church
12424 Brogdon Lane, Baton Rouge

The Knights of Columbus and Kaycee Ladies Auxiliary are hosting fish fries Feb. 20 and 27 and March 6, 13, 20, and 27. Serving starts at 5:30 p.m. and continues until the food is gone. Plates are $12 and include fried fish, potato salad, green beans, and a roll.

St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church
3912 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge

St. Paul begins selling fried fish or shrimp plates on Feb. 20. You can dine in or pick up your order. Call 225-387-9506 to place an order.

St. Thomas More Catholic Church
11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge

St. Thomas More is hosting fish fry Fridays on Feb. 27, March 13, and March 27. Plates are $10 and come with fried fish, fries, and bread. Drive thru runs from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dine in is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
